Usenet Server Review
I have mentioned a few times across the site, that I am a Usenet Server active subscriber. I have been asked several times over the last few weeks, why I feel that Usenet Server is the provider I recommend. I have been putting a lot of thought and research into this and evaluating other providers. I really like some of the features of NewsHosting, such as their client. I feel it is a great addition into their family of products and it is definitely a great free option for a Usenet Browser. However, I still stick with the $10/month plan from Usenet Server. Why? Check out my Usenet Server Review.
- At $10 a month, no-one else gives you the retention of 1206 days, and ever growing. Since I’ve been a subscriber over the last few years, it’s grown from 900 days or thereabouts to over 1200. Amazing.
- Speaking of $10 a month, did we mention its only $10 a month? That’s seriously cheap. (Click here for special pricing!)
- They have unparalleled speeds, I have never had a problem with my 20 connections not fully accelerating or dropping. Other providers I have evaluated have had problems with keeping all contiguous connections available. It would throw errors like, Hey too many connections, and I would have to drop to 19 or 18 so it would stop. You might be thinking, this isn’t a problem really since Usenet is supposed to use your full connection no matter what. This is true, except when you are waiting for that last file to download because you didn’t have all the connections you are already paying for, it’s a bit tiresome.
- File retention is huge on Usenet Server, I rarely if ever grab any NZB’s that can’t be retrieved, this was a big problem for me on some of the other big Usenet players.
- I never had any firewall issues configuring apps such as SickBeard, CouchPotato, or SABnzbd with Usenet Server, I know of a few people who had to either enable uPNP or open up ports, just to connect to a Usenet server. This didn’t make much sense to me, it’s not making Usenet available to the non-techy of us; which is the aim of my site. Everyone should be able to enjoy an Amazing HTPC that you don’t pay a fortune for per month (cutting the cord & the cost).
- For those of you who are skeptical about security, they also provide SSL to protect your security. SSL creates a transport layer that masks traffic running on that port (cue pushing up glasses with finger). This is an additional security measure provided to ensure your privacy is protected, it’s the least/most the provider can do for you!
Update:
Links before were not showing $9.99/month or $99 for a year, they have been fixed. Click away my bargain hunters!
usenetserver is $15.98 per month. i use bintube which is an astraweb reseller. its $10.99 per month with 20 SSL connections. i also use a free xusenet account as a backup server. a backup server is great way to ensure file completion.

Good deal! UsenetServer is bad ass… Been with em for a few years and no complaints.
Hello, i am planning to sign up for a Usenet account, i haven’t used usenet before and have no experience with it, would you say there is a quality difference between UsenetServer vs Newshosting, or is it whats the best money offer they give out at the moment?
Thanks 🙂
Hi vojnik,
Happy to hear that you’ll be trying out Usenet shortly. In terms of quality, both UsenetServer and Newshosting should statisfy your needs. These are both top quality Usenet providers that we do not hesitate to recommend. The prices are spot on, retention is great, and speeds are lightning fast.
Try not to stray away from these names. We’ve found some issues with other providers, like having to port foward and download limits.
We know there’s a lot of choice out there, so making a decision isn’t the easiest thing. Check out these articles for more info.
